With some restaurants and rest areas closed, and grocery stores increasingly restricted during the pandemic, many drivers are struggling to find a fresh meal even as they haul food and other essential cargo. The ‘Fuelling Our Heroes‘ campaign, which kicked off this week in Kansas City, Missouri, is dedicated to distributing 2500 meals to drivers in 15 locations across Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.

The aim of the seven-state road trip is to provide free, nutritious meals to fellow drivers during the Covid-19 pandemic. CDLLife is one of the nation‘s largest online professional driver communities and the mission is spearheaded by its vice president of marketing, Sadie Church, and professional driver and social media personality Brittney Richardson. Volvo Trucks North America is also supporting the initiative.

Richardson, who typically transports goods for a national big-box retail chain, is known for her pink 2019 Volvo VNL 860, works closely with Church to promote diversity and healthy lifestyles within the trucking community.

“No driver should ever have to go hungry because he or she can‘t find food, and there are also those who don‘t have a microwave or room to cook in their trucks,” said Richardson, who came out of quarantine for the Fuelling our Heroes initiative. “This is our way to help those who are currently on the frontlines of the pandemic, while also shining a light on the difficulties they are facing on the road, such as not having easy access to fresh and convenient meals.”

CDLLife vice president of marketing Sadie Church and professional driver Brittney Richardson are delivering 2500 healthy meals to drivers across seven states while many restaurants and truck stops are closed due to Covid-19.

Church and Richardson left Kansas City this week to deliver fresh and ready-to-eat meals at truck stops, including select options for dietary needs like vegan and vegetarian.

Richardson is driving her distinctive pink Volvo VNL 860, covering 1985 miles (3200km) together with Church, while making roughly three stops per day for breakfast, lunch and dinners. She will be posting daily videos along the way, featuring workouts, meal preparation and interactions with fellow drivers.

“Truckers are playing a key role in sustaining our quality of life during Covid-19,” said Magnus Koeck, vice president of marketing and brand management, Volvo Trucks North America. “We are grateful for the opportunity to support CDLLife and Brittney Richardson as they recognise and assist the drivers on the road who are moving the economy forward every day.”
