TR Group has teamed up with Straitline Canvas to trial a new sustainable side curtain fabric for its fleet.

The company is trialling Transport 9000 Eco fabric, which is made from 100% recycled content – each square metre of yarn includes up to 16 recycled soft drink bottles and PVC offcuts.

“It matches the standard of Straitline’s regular Transport 9000 PVC with no compromise on strength or quality, but delivers an estimated 14% reduction in carbon emissions, making it a sustainable option that helps reduce waste to landfill,” TR Group said.

Coated with 100% new white PVC to maintain UV resistance, testing undertaken on Transport 9000 Eco shows it is currently performing at the same level as regular Transport 9000 fabric.

This is also the experience during the side curtain manufacturing process, where Straitline Canvas has found it welds to the exact same standard and specifications as the regular PVC.

Road testing is currently underway on some of TR Group’s rental trucks to put Transport 9000 Eco through its paces in the real world.

“We’re expecting it to pass with flying colours and become a permanent fixture on our vehicles, which makes this an exciting initiative in our commitment and role in redefining the future of the transport industry and leading the way in sustainable practices.”
