Temporary speed restriction State Highway 2

The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists the speed will be lowered from 100km/h to 50km/h on a section of State Highway 2, between Apata and Omokoroa, starting today for the next two weeks.

Bay of Plenty System Manger Rob Campbell says safety is a priority for us and we are lowering the speed limit temporarily to ensure the safety of our contractors while they carry out this important piece of work.

The speed restriction will be between Esdaile Road and Youngson Road between the hours of 9am and 4pm starting today 29 April through to 10 May.

“During this time our contractors will be measuring the location, shape of the road and taking note of size and position of all signs, street lights and trees to help build a 3-dimensional map of the current road for design and construction drawings,” says Mr Campbell.

The drawings will then be used for the Waihi to Omokoroa safety improvements project.

While the speed limit is lowered, traffic management will be in place which will include attenuator trucks, traffic management workers and there will be advance warning signs for motorists travelling through the area.

“We ask motorists to plan ahead and please follow the warning signs and slow down through the site so our people can get home safely to their families,” says Mr Campbell.

The NZ Transport Agency wants to thank road users for their understanding and patience.

Updates will be posted on our website and social media pages or call 0800 4 HIGHWAYS.
