Stanley Street commercial vehicle safety centre almost complete
The Stanley Street commercial vehicle safety centre (CVSC) is almost complete. Installation and construction work started in late March 2024.
Before the site becomes operational, NZTA will be trialling the high speed weigh-in-motion plates, variable message signage (VMS), and static cameras.
This is to ensure accuracy of the in-road weigh-in-motion scales and that the VMS and cameras are operating as they should.
Site trial and digital testing
The transport agency will be trialling the site from 21 to 23 October, with contingency dates of 4 to 6 November if bad weather doesn’t allow necessary works to happen or if there is need for retesting.
The trial will run from 8am to 9pm on these dates.
While this is happening, heavy vehicle drivers may be required to pull into the safety centre and be inspected by the Police commercial vehicle safety team (CVST).
The CVST will be operating on site and enforcing as required.
Site information
The safety centre is located off Stanley Street, at 1 Churchill Street.
About 2km before the site there are in-road weigh-in-motion scales and number plate recognition cameras, these screen every heavy vehicles for compliance and risk.
If your truck is flagged, VMS 1km further down the road will display your licence plate, signalling you to pull into the centre.
The VMS may also say All Heavy Vehicle Stop, if this displayed all heavy vehicles are required to pull into the centre.
Weigh-in-motion scales, cameras and VMS have not yet been installed on The Strand, this is expected to be completed early next year. CVST may still manually pull you in from this approach until this work is complete.
While you’re on site CVST may carry out compliance checks, such as checking for RUC, certificate of fitness, logbooks and worktime, drug and alcohol impairment, or completing a vehicle inspection.
