Scania has been selected to transport Absolut Vodka as the beverage maker looks to slash its carbon emissions.
Absolut sends out around 600,000 bottles of its vodka from its factory in Åhus, southern Sweden, around the globe. The new partnership will see its transports to the nearby harbour made by Scania P320 electric-hybrid trucks.
The transport investment includes three new Scania hybrid-electric P320 trucks, Scania’s latest hybrid-electric model. The P320 is powered by a combination of renewable fuel and electricity, reducing emissions by more than 90% compared with diesel-powered vehicles.
“Our hybrid trucks make it possible to drive without high noise levels and exhaust fumes, in the middle of city centres where people live and work,” said Jessica Björkquist, senior product manager for sustainable solutions at Scania Sweden.
“They also convert the energy generated during braking, which reduces fuel consumption by about 25%. That’s good for the environment and for the haulier’s fuel economy, but perhaps most of all it’s good for Åhus, which is now an even nicer place.”
