Scania fan Ron Neill has had ‘a ride in a Scania truck’ on his bucket list for years and on Monday he got the chance to finally tick it off.
Ron ‘engineered’ the opportunity by showing great interest in Scania’s set up at the recent TMC Trucking Industry Show in Christchurch, inspiring the Scania crew to do something special for him.
Ron lives at the Laura Fergusson Trust in Burnside, so that’s where the Scania Christchurch team picked him up in one of their G540 trucks to take him for a ride out to Rolleston.
“It was absolutely brilliant. This has been on my bucket list for so long,” says Ron. “My favourite part was being up high in the cab and being able to see everything from above.”
Ron, who celebrated his birthday the day prior, was stoked to be able to mark his 63rd year with the truck ride: “I had such a fun day and it was a cool way to wrap up the birthday celebrations.” Not to mention an early Christmas present.
Steve Watts, branch manager at Scania Christchurch says it’s always great to be able to help out members of the local community and it was a pleasure to help Ron celebrate his birthday by crossing something off his bucket list.
“Driving a truck is something we do every day and take for granted so it’s nice to take a step back and experience the excitement and joy that trucks can bring to people who don’t get that opportunity. It was awesome to see the smile on Ron’s face when he saw the truck and to be able to brighten up his day.”
