Who ever thought Road Safety education could be so enjoyable. It’s because of the NTA Road Safety Truck. The New Zealand Trucking Association, in conjunction with the Clutha District Council, arranged a Truck Road Safety Roadshow for the Clutha District. The Road Safety Truck is a true inspiration to all ages, on many levels. Kids learn simple messages and are shown how to keep safe around big trucks. Teachers have a new appreciation after they gain valuable knowledge about trucks and the feedback is that they will change their behaviour around big vehicles in the future. Drivers who volunteer for the day and bring their trucks along, realise that this initiative has a huge impact in their community and that the Road Safety Truck has the X-factor for engagement.
The road show included visits to Baclutha, Tapanaui and Lawrence, with several schools in the outer areas based in to participate. The change in Covid-19 alert levels meant the roadshow was cut short. Another date will be schedule to revisit and run the program in Milton and Owaka. Transport companies around the area attended, which was greatly appreciated by the team.
