National Road Carriers is reminding the industry to get vaccinated as the country prepares for an eventual Covid-19 Omicron outbreak.

The Government announced all of New Zealand will move into RED within 48 hours of the Covid-19 Omicron spreading within the community.

NRC said it is in communications with various agencies to discuss what process will apply for essential workers during an Omicron outbreak.

What businesses can do to prepare:

  • Make sure all your team are vaccinated including those that are eligible for boosters.
  • This is known to be a critical part of minimising the impact on your business. This was highlighted in Australia and Europe so we know it’s value.
  • Maintain physical distancing as much as possible, Omicron is highly transmissible so use of masks is recommended.
  • Familiarise yourself with what the requirements are for operating at RED

NRC said it expects to will see an increase in businesses deploying My Vaccine Pass as a condition of entrym as that is the only way they can remain open at RED, so businesses should therefore expect customers to become even more risk adverse.

Testing Requirements Reminder

  • Drivers with a Vaccine pass do not require to be tested. They simply show their vaccine pass if they are asked to.
  • Unvaccinated drivers travelling on a ferry require a negative test within 72 hours.
  • Unvaccinated drivers will not be permitted to enter any site that is requiring My Vaccine Pass to enter.
  • The Prime Minister stated that testing will remain FREE so don’t rush out and buy kits.
  • NRC is meeting with MOH and other agencies regarding the availability of tests.
