Sime Darby Motors NZ has announced the purchase of a new site in Tauranga that will be home to a purpose-built truck service centre, a Volvo Trucks NZ sales office and an external truck display area.
The 13,817m2 site at Tauriko follows Sime Darby’s April announcement of a long-term ground lease at the Ruakura Superhub near Hamilton.
Chosen for its easy access to major state highway transport corridors, the Tauriko site sits within a growing hub of commercial, industrial, and residential developments in the area. This gives Sime Darby Motors NZ a strong foothold in the Golden Triangle between Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga, an area that accounts for 40% of New Zealand’s total freight movement by tonnage.
“This is another step in our on-going programme of investment in New Zealand, positioning us for future growth,” said Sime Darby Motors NZ managing director, Pat McKenna.
Sime Darby Motors NZ is part of the multinational Sime Darby Berhad, which has operations in 18 countries across the Asia Pacific region and a total workforce of some 30,000 employees, with around 1200 employees in New Zealand.
Plans are well advanced in the design phase of the project, with the appointment of a main contractor expected over the next quarter and ground breaking scheduled for early 2025. Build completion is expected towards the end of 2025.
