Craig Benjamin was spotted driving a 2011 Western Star at the Z service station in Tauranga by Rochelle Thomas, and she couldn‘t help but seize the opportunity to get a photo! The 8-wheel tractor runs a 550hp 60 Series Detroit engine and automated manual gearbox.

A driver for Pacific Fuel, Craig was heading to the Z Truck Stop in Hamilton after his delivery of petrol to the Z outlet at Hewletts Road. The truck is triple-shifted, running 24/7.

Craig has been driving for about 30 years. Starting out asa labourer, he moved on to driving light commercial vehicles before progressing to heavy vehicles, and he has been with Pacific Fuel Haul Ltd for four years now. When asked what he likes best about driving he was quick to say, “Not being in the office! The freedom and being out on the road.” He thinks the biggest problem with the industry would be the lack of cadetships for young drivers; it is hard to get a licence.

For the vexing question Craig chose to fly as his super power “to get places quicker!”
