David Sneddon certainly wasn‘t Kausin‘ Kaos when Faye Lougher caught up with him in Shannon. Driving the ex-Porter‘s 1993 Kenworth T950 with a C15 CAT and an 18-speed Roadranger, he had come from Wellington and was heading for Palmerston North.

Founder of RDL Group in Upper Hutt, David‘s main line of work is in construction, demolition and earthworks. David has been driving trucks for 24 years and now leaves the business operation to his son, Benji.

“Driving beats doing office work,” he laughs. As for problems in the industry, he mentions the common refrain of a lack of skilled people. “ That ‘s compounded by the fact operators have to make a living, so they can‘t always find the time or money to train new staff,” says David.

When given the choice of Ford or Holden, David immediately chooses Holden – then admits he‘s buying a Ford Bronco!
