GOOD ON YA MATE – Time for the chief to rest
Don’s last ride.
In our first posthumous nomination for a ‘Good on ya mate‘, Graeme Wright from Puriri has nominated the late Don Maxwell.
Don passed away on 15 June aged 92 after a lifetime of work in the trucking industry.
Don was renowned for his colossal appetite for work, never resting until all that needed to be done was done. At his public service held in the Puriri Hall on 19 June, Don was remembered for his encyclopaedic knowledge of farm locations on the Coromandel and his willingness to accommodate and train the next generation.
Late in his working life Don suffered an accident on the job that cost him a leg. He would spend the next few decades never far from the passenger seat of a truck – especially a stock truck – that was heading anywhere at all, it didn‘t matter.
