Ken Bell recently caught up with Glenn Boutherway at Crawford‘s gravel pit at Edendale in Southland. Glenn has worked for McNeill Distribution at their Kennington base near Invercargill for about two and a half years.
He has recently taken charge of a new Isuzu CYH530 8×4 bulk tipper and matching 5-axle trailer. The unit has replaced a Hino with a bi-fold set up. Previously Glenn worked on a dairy farm in Southland after working as a storeman at STL Linehaul in Christchurch before that, and comes from a family with strong trucking ties.
The best part about his current job is that it ‘s five days a week and he‘s home most nights, allowing him plenty of family time. Another real highlight was getting a complete new rig and the learning along the way that comes with taking on a new role. He enjoys the variety and carts all types of bulk materials including woodchip, bark, garden supplies, and concrete aggregate.
When asked the vexing question Hansen or Tietjens, Glenn says it is hard to side one way or the other being a loyal supporter of both codes.
