The Gisborne East Coast Truck Show took place at Gisborne Speedway on 9 November, timed perfectly with the arrival of summer.
It was a beautiful blue-sky day over the East Coast, and the trucks and crowds turned out in droves for the Gisborne East Coast Truck Show. Close to 2000 people descended on Gisborne Speedway to see the trucks lined up in the pit area.
Eighty-eight trucks took part this year, entering the venue in a convoy from nearby Te Maanga Road.
This was only the second running of the show. The first was in 2019 before an unfortunate but unavoidable break. William Geuze, one of the show’s organisers, says the support this year from sponsors, entrants and visitors was incredible.
“We’re really impressed with the number of people that came to view and support the show and who participated in the People’s Choice Award. It was good to see. We’re really impressed with the start the show has got off to.”
This year, the show supported Planet Sunshine, the children’s ward at Gisborne Hospital, raising an impressive $19,000. “It’s so cool that we could pool that much together. A special thanks also to Total Parts and Service, which donated the profits made from their stall on the day to us for the charity,” says William.
William would also like to thank Eastland Oil and Engineering Supplies, which donated toy cars for the gift bags handed out to the first 150 kids through the gates.
The Gisborne East Coast Truck Show will now take place every two years, with the next show in 2026.
The organisers wish to thank the show judges, Pete, Brent and Mitchell, as well as Gisborne Speedway, which donated three family passes for the People’s Choice draw, and the 2024 show sponsors:
