Fuso and Five – two four-letter words the market‘s been longing to hear

A ‘big bopper‘ could be just around the corner.

In a recent visit down under, Marc Llistosella, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus, and Fuso Region 2 director global sales, Ilan Elad, confirmed there would be a Fuso heavy duty diesel truck in the near future with the number ‘5‘ taking the lead position at the front of the power badge. The pair wouldn‘t be drawn on any more detail, saying it was definitely being worked on.

“We‘re working on that as we speak. It is going to come out,” said Elad.

It‘s fantastic timing for the Japanese brand enjoying a steady rise both locally and regionally, especially considering the resources potentially available when considering the power plant. At a time when Volvo has clearly signalled its intentions in respect to UD, and with Isuzu already in the north of half-a-thousand horsepower game with their capable but docile large displacement 6WG1-TCS engine, the possibility of sourcing a 13-litre unit from mother Daimler with a performance curve not seen on a big Japper before is truly mouth-watering stuff, and may see the need to increase the size of the pre-delivery areas in the sales outlets significantly.
