Feedback sought on Cardan Shaft park brakes
National Road Carriers has launched a new survey to gather feedback on any safety issues that remain involving Cardan Shaft park brakes following various regulatory interventions.
Following a series of fatalities involving vehicles fitted with a Cardan Shaft park brake, Worksafe and NZTA had issued safety alerts highlighting the need for CSBs to be properly serviced. There was also a communications campaign directed at owners of these vehicles to make sure drivers were aware of the limitations of the CSB when operating around the vehicle.
A warning label was required to be fitted in the cab of the vehicle to make drivers aware that a CSB was fitted.
Changes were also made to how the CSB was tested at CoF.
NZTA is carrying out a review of various regulatory interventions and would like feedback from the sector to determine if any significant residual risk remains with vehicles fitted with a CSB.
National Road Carriers has created a short survey that will allow users to provide answers to the questions NZTA have. The survey is anonymous unless contact details are provided in the survey.
