DAF Trucks has launched a new augmented reality app and a fully immersive online virtual experience.

The new technology will enable consumers to experience DAF’s New Generation XF, XG and XG trucks via computer screens and mobile devices.

The interactive augmented reality New Generation DAF app highlights each detail of the New Generation XF, XG and XG. Using the camera on a mobile phone or tablet, the software can place the truck anywhere, enabling app users to explore the truck from all angles and discover the details and features.

The DAF Virtual Experience is an immersive and interactive online environment, which emulates its physical equivalent at DAF’s onsite Experience Centre in Eindhoven. The virtual domain offers shows, presentations, videos, a live chat and the possibility to register for a virtual drive in the New Generation XG and XG. A visit to the DAF Museum and a virtual web shop are also included. More features will be added during the year.

“The DAF Virtual Experience has been designed to work on all devices – desktop and mobile,” said Richard Zink, director marketing & sales.

“It is responsive, rapid and much more than just a video production, with the look and feel of a high-end gaming environment,” he said.

“The New Generation DAF app and the DAF Virtual Experience are part of a comprehensive digital launch of a new generation of trucks, and at the same time ushers in a new generation in communications too.”

Production of the New Generation trucks begins this October. The new line up, which includes the XF, XG and XG+ offers 10% improved fuel efficiency and a full suite of passive and active safety features.

The lineup also takes advantage of the new European masses and dimensions regulations.

The new trucks feature a high-quality cab design with a 160mm front elongation to enable industry-leading aerodynamics and safety. The XG and XG+ offer 330mm of extra cab length at the rear.

Lightweight, high strength steel is used for the cab structure, and soft touch materials and leather are used extensively throughout the interior. Highly energy efficient LED lighting is used throughout the truck, with special attention paid to the low and high-beam headlights. The new cab design features a large windscreen and large side windows with ultra-low belt lines. As an option, a curb view window is available which – in combination with the foldable co-driver seat – offers an unobstructed view on pedestrians and cyclists next to the truck on the co-driver side.

Also new is the DAF Digital Camera system that can replace the main and wide-angle mirrors. The DAF Corner View system offers maximum view on the area around the cab’s A-pillar on the co-driver side. All vehicle lighting now includes full LED technology for optimal view and visibility.

The vehicles underwent more than 20 million kilometers of customer testing to ensure the new trucks meet DAF’s quality standards.
