Competition – New Zealand‘s favourite truck of the last 50 years

3 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineApril 16, 2020

Let‘s chuck the cat amongst the pigeons and have some fun on lockdown. Over the seven weeks, we‘re going to run an online voting competition where you all decide what vehicle is the country‘s favourite, most deserved, contributor to the national freight haulage task over the last 50 years.

Every Friday we‘ll put up a batch from a different decade, starting today at the 70s and running through until 10s.

A couple of things you need to know before you start:

1. It has nothing to do with when the truck was launched or released, it‘s all about when the truck was at its peak. So, don‘t phone or email with “You put blah blah in the 80s and it was released in 70s…” That‘s got nothing to do with it. It‘s all about the truck‘s glory days.

2. The photos are representative and not necessarily taken in the decade. They‘re just there in case you have no idea what a TK Bedford is, for example.

The trucks have been chosen in the context of fun and banter and any personal grievance arising from a favourite being missed will pretty much be ignored in the happiest way possible. Vote for your favourite as often as you like (you’re limited to one vote a day, though); we‘re just going to sit back, watch, and laugh.

At the end of the decades we‘ll have a vote-off between the decade winners for the number one spot! We might even try and find an example of the supreme winner for the next Retro Test! That‘d be cool, unless it‘s an E Series ERF, a TK Bedford, or a … yes folks number 3 is almost here.

So off you go. Vote away, make some comments on social media, and have some fun, but please think before you comment. New Zealand Trucking Media is a family show and the kids are all looking too, especially now.

So, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, for the next seven days it‘s all about the 70s!

Ready, settee, GO!
