Collection time nearing for Tyrewise scheme

In News1 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineAugust 1, 2024

Tyrewise field reps have completed more than 1300 visits to talk to partners ahead of collections.

The Tyrewise initiative aims to significantly reduce tyre waste. It is Aotearoa New Zealand’s first national scheme to repurpose tyres.

With just over four weeks to go before end-of-life tyre collections start, Tyrewise said it is speeding up the process by collecting some information via phone visits for some participants.

Tyrewise is not funded to collect tyres that become end-of-life before 1 September. To avoid any collection issues, operators should continue with their current disposal arrangements until then. The only exception is tyres that have been sold since 1 March that have become end-of-life since then. In that case, operators need to make sure:

  • They are stored separately to other end-of-life tyres
  • You have evidence the fee was paid on them
  • Your current commercial arrangements for removal of end-of-life tyres up to 31 August 2024 should remain in place.

FAQs, fact sheets and other information for businesses are available in the Tyrewise Toolbox accessed through the Tyrewise website.

A searchable directory of all partners who have finalised their registrations has also been published on the Tyrewise website.
