Calling all truck drivers – take a walk and help the fight against cancer

Tuesday, February 12, 2019

Truckers’ Health correspondent Laura Peacock is doing her bit to raise money for the Cancer Society, and she’s inviting you to tag along.

The 100km Walk for Cancer Society is an overnight fundraiser behind held in Thames. The event starts at 6pm on Friday 15 March and ends around 2pm the following day.

On the Friday at 6pm Laura will begin her 100km charity walk from TCA Fitness Club in Thames toward Waikino Gorge. When she reaches the 50km halfway mark at Waikino Cafe, she will turn around and begin her journey back to Thames. Laura estimates her 100km Walk for Cancer Society will take between 20 and 24 hours and she hopes to be back in Thames by Saturday at 2pm. She wants to have as many people as possible join her on the walk and donate money to the Cancer Society.

There is a signup sheet online and at TCA Fitness Club in Thames to volunteer to walk legs of the 100km trail. Laura has split her 100km journey into 20 legs of 5km and has created four teams. Team ‘Out the Gate’ covers legs 1 to 5; team ‘Night Prowlers’ covers legs 6 to 10; team ‘Morning Glory’ covers legs 11 to 15, and team ‘Final Frontier’ covers legs 16 to 20. You can sign up for as many or as few legs as you like. Or, even better – enter a group and cover a greater distance of the 100km mission in tag-team style.

So grab your friends and family together and sign up for a section of the trail by either messaging Laura/her event page on Facebook, or popping into TCA Fitness Club. Please support Laura in her mission to raise funds for the Cancer Society. Her fundraising target this year is $5000 so why not help Laura achieve her goal and enter a team so you can walk the walk as well as talking the talk?

Donations can be made at TCA Fitness Club in Thames by cash/eftpos or online at everydayheronz by searching the key words ‘100km walk for Cancer’.
