The Mount Truck Show 2016

Location, Location, Location is a term often used, and the organisers of the Mount Truck Show decided to stage this year‘s event in concert with the annual air show at the Tauranga Aerodrome. It produced an entertainment package rarely seen in this country in a superb location.

Before lunch the entrants in the “ Truck Show and Shine” met at Ashley Place in Papamoa to register prior to setting off in convoy, finishing at the Tauranga Airfield where they parked up near the airstrip.

With the trucks in place, the gates opened to the public who arrived in droves to have a look at the impressive gear on display, and to set up their seats and umbrellas to watch “The Classics of the Sky” roar overhead.

Mount Maunganui turned on a spectacularly hot, sunny day, and a warm humid night, lit up by the truck show contestants at the night-glow display with their lights shining bright and aerials that resembled light sabres from Star Wars! The Truck of the Show trophy was carved in memory of Ivan “Jandels” Morey who has sadly passed away from cancer.

This was awarded to James Ranga from Rangawhenua Limited who entered his K108 Kenworth self loader.
Truck Show organiser Alex Salter and her team did a great job running the show and raised over $6,000 for the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter.
