ROAD NOISE NEWS – Nikola One – just around the corner

1 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineJune 23, 2016

Capable of pulling a total gross weight of 80,000 pounds and offering more than 1,200 miles between stops, the six-wheel-drive Nikola One boasts an output of 1,491kW (2,000hp) and 5,016Nm (3,700lb/ft) of torque at near-zero emission.

The Nikola One has a 335 horsepower electric motor and a dual gear reduction at every wheel. Horsepower, torque, acceleration, pulling and stopping power are superior to any class 8 truck on the road.

The Nikola One‘s electric motors are powered by a liquid-cooled 320 kWh, lithium-ion battery pack (over 30,000 lithium cells), which is charged by a proprietary onboard Nikola Motor Company turbine. The turbine automatically charges the batteries when needed and eliminates the need to ever ‘plug-in‘.

While the majority of the semi-truck‘s components are being developed by Nikola, the company also co-designed the industry‘s first-ever independent suspension with Meritor.

“Nikola has built the truck of the future and will hold that title for quite some time,” said Trevor Milton, founder, CEO and president, Nikola Motor Company. Reservations for the Nikola One are now being taken.
