Above – THEN

November featured a Kenworth world first that was only a week old when tested. The Kenworth T404S was the first T404S 8×4 tractor unit when it was commissioned in October 2006, hauling a Maxicube 4-axle refrigerated trailer for J & H Bryant Ltd in Auckland.

The 404 was powered by a Cat C15 550hp engine, with a Roadranger RTLO18918B 18-speed gearbox, Dana DHS40B rear axles and KW AG 400 8-bag air suspension rated at 18,100kgs.

The truck, and others that followed, were purchased for cartage contracts with Goodman Fielder between Auckland and Palmerston North, as well as other northern areas.

John Bryant only kept this particular truck for 90,000 kilometres. It was sold to Peter Thomas Transport Ltd in Taupo and run for the next five years, registering 1.2 million kilometres. In 2011 this world first was sold to Philip Wareing Ltd in Methven, who converted it to a log unit and the truck is still paying its way there today. It has covered more than 1.6 million kilometres and nothing but regular repair and maintenance crops up on the work sheets.
