New business entity – McCurdy Trucks

Two well-known names in the New Zealand truck and trailer repair scene have integrated to become one restructured business to better serve their customer base.

Moller Johnson Limited, based in Hawera and Bell Block, has integrated into McCurdy Engineering Limited, based in New Plymouth. All three sites will now run under McCurdy Trucks.

“We will continue to represent all our brands that both businesses currently represent, but in more locations so suppliers and customers are both onto a winner. Isuzu Trucks sales will continue with McCurdy Trucks but our main focus is, and has always been, parts, service and repair support for all our service partners,” says manager Paul McCurdy.

Moller Johnson has been in the industry for many years and has represented many makes and models over that time. From Bedford trucks to Citroen cars and most recently Holden and Mazda cars, the South Taranaki dealership has seen some changes. Moller Johnson Isuzu split off their car side in 2009, and in 2011 the McCurdy family took over ownership of Moller Johnson in their new truck orientated workshop and at the time a newly established Bell Block service workshop.

McCurdy Engineering recently celebrated 50 years in business. With the company formed in 1965 by Jim McCurdy, things have progressed from transport engineering to service and repairs. Guided by Wayne McCurdy during this time, the service and repair side has increased to a point where ‘engineering‘ no longer best represents the company‘s current capacity.

“With the integration of both our companies into one to better serve our clients and the increase of service and repair work since the early 90s, we feel that now is a great time to rename to McCurdy Trucks,” says Paul McCurdy.
“McCurdy is who we are and trucks are what we do so it‘s simple really. Engineering is still a big focus for us and that is still growing, but McCurdy Trucks represents us best today and in the future”.

Both companies are award winning, recently receiving the Southpac Service Dealer of the Year award for the second year running, the Truckstops Dealer of the Year award, and numerous other local recognition awards.

“We plan to build on our strengths and increase our offer to customers. We have purchased 3.52ha of land in New Plymouth to build a new purpose-built facility for both our North Taranaki locations, plus we are in negotiations with other like-minded businesses that serve the transport industry to join us on the site to become a true one-stop transport service yard. Hawera will continue at its current modern facility but we will be adding more to that site as it has also grown in recent years”.
