ROAD NOISE NEWS – Factory dual-control Mercedes-Benz Econic ready for duty

In Uncategorized1 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineMay 21, 2016

Aimed at waste collection groups looking to run a side loader, the new Econic has two steering wheels and two sets of controls. This allows drivers to control the vehicle from the side closest to the kerb, enabling a better view when picking up bins as well as enhancing co-worker and pedestrian safety.

The new dual-control Econic was developed by MercedesBenz in Germany in response to customer demand in Australia and New Zealand. The truck is produced at the company‘s Worth factory, making it a superior option to after-market conversions.

All of the major driver controls are replicated, including the automatic transmission controls, and the audio system can be controlled via buttons on either steering wheel. The Econic will be available as both a 6×2 and 6×4. Both use a 7.7-litre Euro VI diesel engine with 299hp coupled to the 6-speed fully automatic Allison transmission and air suspension on all axles as standard.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks senior manager of sales in New Zealand, Dave Ballantyne, said, “We‘re thrilled to be able to offer the New Zealand waste industry such an advanced dual-control truck that ticks all the boxes. This is a factorydeveloped and built solution, which means the highest possible quality. We think that is something that local operators will really appreciate.”
