Volkswagen has released its RIO ‘Operating System for the Global Supply Chain’, with MAN taking the role as initial sponsor, developing the brand within the truck and bus group.
According the VW, RIO bundles digital solutions within the transport and logistics ‘ecosystem’. It is an open platform and can be deployed across competitor products.
Shippers, dispatchers, carriers, drivers, and customers can be connected with a uniform information and application system, including forecasting features. Combining information from all of the above sources with traffic, weather and navigation data, RIO will provide users with concrete recommendations in real time.
RIO offers a common platform and can therefore be used regardless of vehicle brand or telematics system. All vehicle types can be refitted without any difficulties.
Andreas Renschler, CEO of Volkswagen Truck & Bus, says “Rio will fundamentally change the world of transportation as we know it. For the first time, our unified platform enables the registration, management and integrated use of all data and information available in the transport system.”
