Truckies passing through New Plymouth before 30 June will enjoy a free drink at the end of their long day on the road if they decide to stay the night at The Devon Hotel.
All they have to do is show their truck keys and their copy of the latest New Zealand Trucking magazine or our Facebook page on their phone, and their first drink of the night will be on the house. The Devon Hotel also offers discounted rates to trucking companies.
“We‘d love all truckies passing through New Plymouth to stay here but we are still fortunate to have always been well supported by the industry. Shouting their first drink is a nice way for us to say thanks for their support,” says Peter Tennent, managing director of The Devon Hotel New Plymouth.
While Tennent says he expects most truckies will want to come in and relax by the fire – with their drink – after a long day, he says there are other options for those with some energy to burn. “Our free cycles are there if they want to get out after a long day in the cab, they can work out in the gym or aquatic centre in town as our guest, or we‘ll shout their first round of golf at New Plymouth Club if they have some extra time to kill,” he says.
The Devon Hotel is the biggest hotel in Taranaki and has become well known over the years. It‘s the highest rated in the region, with a 4-star Qual Mark Gold certification. Full amenities are available in all rooms including free Wi-Fi and Sky TV. Ample truck parking is available near and around the hotel.
“In our Marbles Buffet restaurant we have ‘captain‘s tables‘, those dining at a captain‘s table get the first drink on us. This is something we‘ve done for many years; it‘s about enjoying the company of others and swapping stories of the day,” Tennent adds.
“We hope to make a home away from home for the men and women who keep the country moving,” he says.
