Rob McAlpine, former global freight rail director for Fortune 500 global infrastructure consultancy firm AECOM, has been appointed group general manager of operations of KiwiRail.

KiwiRail CEO Peter Reidy said he was delighted that McAlpine was joining KiwiRail. “He is an impressive talent, with an invaluable level of leadership diversity and a deep knowledge of rail planning, engineering and operations.”

McAlpine has more than 30 years of operational and strategic experience in the rail sector leading large bulk rail, intermodal and freight forwarding businesses with Queensland Rail and a freight infrastructure business for AECOM.

“I am very much looking forward to working with the KiwiRail team to help deliver for our customers and for government, but also importantly to deliver for our people in collaboration with our union colleagues,” said McAlpine.

McAlpine starts his new role in October, taking over from Iain Hill.
