Cold but oh so cool! Southland Transport Invercargill Truck Parade 2017

3 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineNovember 26, 2017

When Labour Weekend rolls around each year in Invercargill, the locals already have the truck parade pencilled in on their calendar.

The extremely rare Dodge Airflow from Bill Richardson Transport World led the parade.

With numbers down a little on previous years, the additions of the Southern Commercial Classics and various companies joining in just for the parade were welcomed with open arms.

The arrival fleet heralded the start of the frenzied click of cameras from the large crowd that had braved a chilly southerly to take in the spectacle.

This year the parade was led by Bill Richardson Transport World‘s 1940 Dodge Airflow to celebrate the release of Transport World‘s first children‘s book, ‘The Story of Tex‘, which is available now. It‘s the first time the Dodge Airflow has been on parade in New Zealand and will possibly be the last.

The trucks made their way through the streets with the drivers and passengers waving to those lining the streets. King Rig and Best Kenworth went to Cole Frew from Eden Haulage in a K200 Kenworth. Eden Haulage won multiple prizes at the show including Best DAF and Best Fleet.

Company owner Phil Collinson says, “We put in a heap of effort every year to get them to show standard, particularly when most of the trucks only finish work on the Saturday morning prior. Special thanks to the drivers and their families who put in the hard yards not just at the truck show weekend, but every day. Also a huge thank you to organiser Mark Purdue for the massive effort he puts in every year, and to the judges and sponsors.”

Southland Icon DT Kings were well represented. You know you‘re in Southland with a sight like this.

King Rig and Best Kenworth winner Cole Frew leads the Eden Haulage Kenworths along Bill Richardson Drive. The company also collected best fleet.

Best Isuzu went to Glen Boutherway from McNeill‘s.
