The second inductee, LEB862, is a 2018 Kenworth K200 Fat Cab, with an X-15 Cummins and 18-speed Roadranger. Painted yellow in the factory, Will was the first behind the wheel of this truck from new, too.
“I ordered this truck to take over the Welly/Taranaki run from HYK and put HYK on the linehaul, firstly with that reefer B-train and then quad semi.”
In 2021 LEB was replaced with an 8×4 Fat Cab and LEB was put on another run, doing Wairarapa by day and a double run to the Wellington depot at night.
“All its life it’s been double-shifted, covering almost 5000km per week. It’s currently sitting on 1,600,000km. It’s had two rebuilds and is on its second gearbox, which ties in with me saying I feel the E5 Cummins is a far better motor.”
In comparison with HYK, LEB’s tanks were wrapped in yellow and the visor was painted yellow so there was less to polish, but it still looked good.
“Rather than spending that large amount on a fake exhaust again, I opted for an underbody exhaust and just have the two air intakes up behind the cab.
“It worked out great, as it was far easier to wash the back of the cab, too. There are fewer obstructions in the way.”
Will also opted for a king single rather than a single bed, for a very practical reason.
“When I bought HYK, I was happy as Larry, because I now had a fridge, like all my other drivers and their trucks.
“But being a big cab and just a single bed, I couldn’t reach the bloody fridge while driving, so my drinks still stayed in my bag.
“Opting for the king single bed brought the fridge forward and in reach, while still sitting in the seat.”
