DAF Trucks Australia has announced the release of two new flagship models, the XG and XG+.

The XG and XG+ are the product of global collaboration led by PACCAR Australia.

The models come equipped with a 15L PACCAR PX-15 engine, delivering 485kW (660hp) and 3200Nm (2360lb/ft) from 900 – 1400rpm.

“Compact, lightweight, incredibly fuel efficient, and validated over five million kilometres of Australian highway testing, its potential to reduce operating costs for fleets, large and small, is already proven,” DAF said.

With DAF the first manufacturer to implement the new European cab design standards, both models feature cabs that are longer, significantly more aerodynamic, more spacious, and provide the driver with a superior level of visibility.

The new cab features a redesigned front grille for improved cooling and aerodynamics, 220L toolboxes on both sides and easy access with three evenly spaced steps.

High-quality materials and finishes throughout reflect a luxurious vehicle look, with a 12in central screen being partnered by a 10in display for DAF’s Infotainment System.

The Euro-6 new generation engine platform allows the PX-15 engine to operate at higher cylinder pressures, resulting in improved performance.

To harness the high torque output of the engine, the Australian models come equipped with the ZF TraXon 16-speed automated gearbox.

The new generation trucks also offer an extensive range of active and passive safety features, adding new features like a 270 degrees corner view camera to effectively reduce blind spots on the passenger side and front of the vehicle.

“Throughout the development of the XG, we were eager to extend the capability of this truck to suit the high productivity applications that make Australian transport so unique,” said DAF director of product planning Ross Cureton.

“Through PACCAR’s global powertrain partnerships, we identified the perfect combination to deliver a step forward in performance, fuel economy and durability, while preserving the outstanding comfort, safety and refinement of this next generation DAF.”

The two models are available to order now, with production happening at Kenworth DAF’s Bayswater plant from January 2025 onwards.
