DHL Supply Chain New Zealand has named Nafiz Ali as its new senior director of transport, as the company prepares for network and fleet expansion and the rollout of new vehicles to reduce fleet emissions.

DHL’s transition to a modernised, lower emissions fleet in New Zealand is part of the division’s €200 million investment in sustainable transport solutions in 17 countries by the end of 2026, which was announced as part of its Global Transport Policy in 2023.

It highlights a strategic step towards decarbonising transport solutions and achieving significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, in accordance with the Group’s Sustainability Roadmap. The Sustainability Roadmap is also helping to shape the facilities DHL is building in New Zealand, such as the 5 Star Green Star rated Auckland Airpark II site, which commenced last year.

With over two decades’ experience as a chartered accountant, head of finance for a number of logistics companies and in operational roles, Ali offers a blend of skills to lead DHL’s Transport sector.

Matt Casbolt, managing director at DHL Supply Chain New Zealand, said the appointment of Ali brings the right skills to the company at the right time.

“As part of DHL’s decarbonisation initiatives, we are transforming our fleet, as well as researching and selecting best-fit products which reduce greenhouse gas emissions to meet and exceed the service needs of our customers and helping them meet their own sustainability targets,” he said.

“We’re thrilled to have Mr Ali onboard. His understanding of the New Zealand transport and logistics market means that he’ll help us expand to meet the demands of our existing customers along with those who join us as we grow.”

Ali said that DHL’s people-focused culture and focus on sustainability are some of the factors that led him to the role.

“While my background as a finance leader with practical experience in operations makes me a good fit for DHL Supply Chain New Zealand’s Transport sector, the company’s attitude towards the people who make it all happen, along with its stance on environmental sustainability are the main factors which led me to take on the role,” he said.

“Our initial focus is to deliver more transport resources to our existing supply chain customers while preparing our network to take on more customers, from industries including life sciences and healthcare, retail, and technology, across the country. My goal is to successfully expand our footprint in New Zealand, so more organisations can experience DHL’s tailored, end-to-end transport solutions which incorporate safety and reliability along with our customer-centric service.”
