The Volkswagen ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo have arrived and are being billed as Europe’s first all-electric bus and transporter range.
With design based on the 1950’s VW Bulli bus, Volkswagen says the ID. Buzz “picks up on this lifestyle and transfers it into our time: emission-free, sustainable, fully networked and now ready for the next big chapter: autonomous driving.”
Built by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, Germany, the ID. Buzz comes with the brand’s latest ID. software and sets new standards in its segment with the latest systems and functions for safety, comfort and charging. The brand says the new model is pioneering in terms of sustainability, with manufacture and shipping having a carbon-neutral footprint.
Key features if the ID. Buzz include:
- Design: The ID. Buzz transfers seven decades of Bulli know-how into the era of software and digitalisation.
- Software: Latest version brings assist systems such as ‘Travel Assist with swarm data’ and automated parking to the range.
- Charging: ‘Plug & Charge’ technology enables the ID. Buzz’s 77kWh battery to be easily charged while out and about with up to 170kW charging power. The 150kW electric motor drives the rear wheels.
- Energy storage: Bidirectional charging (Vehicle-to-Home) enables the integration of ID. Buzz into the home energy system.
- Interior space: The ID. Buzz provides space for five persons and 1121l of luggage – and, as the Cargo, 3.9m3capacity allows for two euro pallets.
The ID. Buzz will come to market in Europe’s autumn. Advance orders can already be placed in some countries in May.
