The relentless march of time has done it again… 12 months have past in the blink of an eye. While it may have gone by almost too quickly, so much has happened this year.
Ardern left. Gabrielle arrived. Labour struggled to keep its share of ministers under control and out of trouble. By the second half of the year, the national elections had fully dominated the headlines. And with National’s coalition government now in full swing and wasting no time to make good on its election promises, that theme will undoubtedly carry on as we enter 2024.
The trucking and transport industry continued to prove its worth, keeping cyclone-affected areas supplied amidst tough conditions. Waka Kotahi proved that it could spring into action when allowed to do so and wasted no time reopening routes. On the point of the industry and roads, calls for upgrades to the network and the need for resilience seem to have made their way to the ears of those with the power to do something about it – only time will tell if they’re able to keep their promises.
For many, December’s arrival will be warmly welcomed. Although not as bad as the three years prior, 2023 was full-on in its own way. So, with only 10 days left until Christmas, the well-deserved wind down has begun.
Make the most of it. Enjoy your time off, rest, recoup, recharge. Cherish the undivided time with family and friends, look after one another. Spend time in the summer sun, have a BBQ and a beer. 2024 beckons…
