Workshop to assess Manawatu Gorge short list options

1 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineNovember 3, 2017

Key stakeholders from local government, industry and iwi attended a workshop in Palmerston North this week as part of the assessment of the four short-listed options for an alternative to the permanently closed Manawatu Gorge.

The workshop brought together a wide range of views on perceived benefits and/or challenges of the various options.

The workshop followed the public submission period for the Manawatu Gorge alternative short-listed options, which ended last week. The public feedback and workshop outcomes will feed into a multi-criteria assessment of the four shortlisted options. The criteria include transport performance, cost and constructability, culture and heritage, landscape and visual, social impacts and natural environment.

NZTA will confirm a preferred approach for the Manawatu Gorge alternative route by mid-December.
