RIGS OF 2006 – April Freightliner Century Class – CUS864

In Freightliner, News1 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineJune 15, 2016

NZ Trucking magazine‘s April issue carried a road test of one of TNL‘s Century Class Freightliner 6×4 trucks fitted with a TMC waterproof deck, connected to a 4-axle TMC waterproof trailer.

It was specifically designed to run out of TNL‘s Rai Valley depot between Nelson and Blenheim hauling mussels, fish, and general freight, servicing the Marlborough region. As this was the third Freightliner Ian Jones (Jonesy) had driven for TNL, he was involved in the truck‘s specifications pre-build.

The spec included a Cummins ISX 475hp engine, an 18-speed Roadranger gearbox, Meritor RT46 series rear axles and Chalmers 854 rubber suspension. This Freightliner ran for TNL until 2014 when Diverse Works Ltd purchased it to run out of Wanaka. At the time of the purchase, the speedo recorded 450,000 kilometres and it has covered an additional 50,000 to date.

There are no recorded major repairs and the truck is hauling all forms of product associated with the earthworks industry.
